UK electrical contractor salaries do not reflect the worth of the industry as construction work has an image problem, according to industry executives. A London-based managing director is paid between 40,000-75,000 pounds sterling in 1998, whereas his counterpart in Wales is paid between 35,000 and 50,000 pounds sterling. A London-based engineer is paid between 25,000 and 31,000 pounds sterling in 1998, while his counterpart in Wales receives between 18,000 and 26,000 pounds sterling.

Magic lantern
Article Abstract:
A 45,000 pounds sterling lighting sculpture has been installed at the entrance of the UK Inland Revenue offices in London, with the aim of making a visit to the taxman a little less daunting. The design team settled on a huge lantern shape for new lighting effect, standing up to 3 meters high. The design proved complex and challenging for all involved in the construction and installation of the light sculpture, although the end result is well worth the effort.

Electrical accessory manufacturer MK Electric has a test facility in north London, England. Here, it tests all its products to British Standards and beyond. There are 19 test modules connected to integral PCs, with results from the test modules including temperature rises and the make and break capacity of an electrical connection. This facility is accredited each year by UKAS, thus ensuring that it always follows the correct regimes.
