Integrating team activities with alignment methods improves management teams' prospects of achieving effectiveness in their respective organizations. Teams play an important role in communicating corporate strategy to members of the organization and in implementing this strategy to achieve business goals. Team mission statements have to be aligned with the corporate mission, and provide teams with a clear understanding of their impact on organizational performance. Team effort can yield effective results by creating alignment in all work processes and systems.

To do this, facilitators at Lockheed Martin urge participants to adopt sports metaphors so they will be able to relate with it. A company may choose the football, basketball, golf, track-and-field metaphors depending on what suits the organization. This exercise can be a venue for open communication where sentiments can be expressed and teams can be strengthened.

These steps are usually followed under the supervision of quality acouncil, comprising of executives, managers and supervisors. The chartering process involves getting problem statement, steps to be taken for total quality management, selecting team leader and members and training them.
