On simulating dynamic behaviour of three phase induction machines with squirrel cage rotor
Article Abstract:
A new time domain static network model of a three phase induction motor with squirrel cage rotor is presented. Simulation of the dynamic behaviour of a machine fed through static power control equipment containing switching devices of one kind or another can be conveniently achieved using this model The procedure is simple and can be applied, with considerable flexibility, to any system containing one or more induction machines. The model is inherently capable to account for iron losses as well. It is also suited for simulation of machine dynamics with unbalanced introduced in the stator electrical circuits by a fault, provided the structure of the windings remains unaltered. A similar network model can be derived to represent a machine with an asymmetrical internal fault which splits one or more stator phases into multiple sections with or without interconnections. A previously published model of a triac has been improved (Ghani 1981). (Reprinted with permission of the publisher.)

Simulating bilateral decision-making to facilitate settlements
Article Abstract:
In the third of a series of three articles on the use of simulation for making, influencing, predicting or explaining decisions, decision-making simulation is used to help resolve disputes over what decisions would be reached. Mutually beneficial solutions are emphasized in the resolution that may be better than the original best expectations of the disputants. Use of simulation in advocacy is motivated primarily by the desire to have the advocate win, but use of simulation for dispute resolution is motivated primarily by the desire to facilitate settlements and to avoid a trial, a strike, a war, or some other socially undesirable outcome. The dispute resolution studied here involves public policies for dealing with different social problems.
