Optimizing laser quality
Article Abstract:
Infrared prequalification of laser windows are found to reduce the number of inferior quality windows prior to blazing into plasma tubes. The method defines crystalline quartz impurities and points out problem areas which need refinement. Cleaners and reagents are determined based on which have the least negative effect and which plastic storage boxes are susceptible to breakdown, causing plastic coatings on the inside surface of the boxes. The method also improves the tubes' output power.

Thermography monitors weld quality
Article Abstract:
Infrared Monitoring Systems has developed a system that can inspect the weld quality on small, electrical components. The Thermovision 470 features an infrared scanner that can detect deviations from a stored memory of weld thermal signatures. The device can measure temperature differences of 0.1 degrees Celsius and compare it with data incorporated in its accompanuying software. Applications of the device has lowered reject rates to less than 5%.
