Physical or virtual team collocation: does it matter?
Article Abstract:
Team collocation within the framework of Concurrent Engineering was found to be beneficial as well as repressive. Team collocation boosts the chances for cooperation and interchange of concepts, and will have a substantial effect on the design process that reduces iterations and redesign. It is suppressive since it could disintegrate into the so-called "groupthink" syndrome. Nonetheless, collocation holds a place in the international business environment given that pertinent infrastructures, which include computer-based information systems, are in effect.

Integrated coordination in cooperative design
Article Abstract:
Manufacturing departments within one production facility are increasingly becoming interdependent through computers and electronic data transmission systems. The increased interdependence in product design and manufacture poses numerous challenges which existing collaborative approaches have been unable to overcome. A framework for a new collaborative approach called Integrated Design Collaboration Support System is presented. The key features of the new system are discussed.

Tool integration for collaborative design of manufacturing cells
Article Abstract:
Incompatibility between design and production tools is one of the main causes of inefficient production times among manufacturing cells. To address this problem, a tool integration model based on computer simulation and actual production processes was developed. The model allows designers to test tool compatibility and reduce production start-up times. A discussion of the key features of the tool integration model is presented.
