Project management oversight - good tool for program managers

Article Abstract:

A study made regarding the application of project management oversight used the Urban Mass Transportation Administration as its reference. It is observed that a consultant of the program should monitor a given project from a certain distance while acting as a mediative information relay, hastener in the decision making process, and adviser. If these roles are combined with competence, independence and the needed interaction mechanisms, then the program will increase a project's worth, itself review the presence of necessary resources and minimize the risks of project failure.

Think value engineering

Article Abstract:

Value engineering (VE) is an indispensable management technique for identifying alternative methods for complying to project requirements and reducing the costs. Government agencies and federal contractors have realized the benefits of adopting VE, which include higher profit earnings and a reputation of providing products and services at lower costs. Parts 48 and 52 of the Federal Acquisition Regulations enumerate the policies and procedures governing VE and the contractual provisions allowed to federal government and their contractors.

Growing pains

Article Abstract:

Group members of civil engineering projects undergo developmental sequences before becoming highly efficient. The developmental process undergoes four phases, namely, orientation to the task; intragroup conflict; development of group cohesion and functional role relatedness. Allowing team members to go through all these stages helps to create a highly functional team and ensures the success of a project.
