Study reveals benefits of sulphur lighting at European postal installation
Article Abstract:
A qualitative and quantitative study showed the advantages of using sulphur-lamp/light-tube lighting at Sundsvall, Sweden Post Terminal. The study by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) of Troy, NY, compared the performance of sulphur lamps at Sundsvall Post Terminal with traditional fluorescent lights at a similar facility in Umea, Sweden. Postal workers at Sundsvall much preferred sulphur lamps than fluorescent lights, particularly in getting rid of dark areas and shadows on walls. In quantitative terms, sulphur lamps have substantially higher mean horizontal illuminance, mean wall, and ceiling and floor luminance measurements.

Flexible cabling solution yields arena answer
Article Abstract:
The unique shape of the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL, presented unique challenges on using standard cable trays for distributing wires and cables. The cable trays were modified to create four configurations that met the arena's wiring requirements. The four configurations are single- tiered cable tray without outboard rungs; single-tiered tray without outboard rungs; two-tiered tray in which the top tier has no rungs and the bottom tier has outside rungs; two-tiered tray with not outboard rungs on either tier.

Optimizing absorption chillers
Article Abstract:
A hybrid dual absorber cycle is achieved by integrating a vapor recompression absorbers (VRA) with a small electric motor in an ordinary direct-fired absorption (DFA) chiller. This unit would be more practical in the deregulated utility industry for its lower first costs and smaller footprints as compared to triple-effect or four-effect DFA chillers that are being developed.
