The new planning system in Wales
Article Abstract:
The UK Welsh Office is setting out a new planning policy initiative for Wales. The Welsh Office's chief adviser on planning is Peter Roderick, who argues that the new system will function much better than the system it replaces. Advantages include simplified guidance on policy. Critics are concerned that a strategic framework is lacking, and they argue that planning should be more integrated into transportation and economic development.

Article Abstract:
There are calls for a supplement to the National Code of Local Government, and the National Development Control Forum is considering the issue of draft guidance. Some authorities have not adopted a formal code, but include general guidance in members' induction packs. Benefits of a local code would be to provide assistance and protection to members and improving public confidence in the planning system.
