Supersonic burner helps steelmakers
Article Abstract:
BOC Gases of Guilford, England, has introduced the "Burnjector" oxyfuel burner for electric-arc steelmaking furnaces, a device capable of improving heat transfer by a factor of eight. The device, which combines carbon addition, heating and oxygen addition functions, is capable of generating a supersonic gas jet that can go through as much as 6 m of molten steel. BOC's Burnjector, capable of maintaining an 80% thermal efficiency, utilizes convergent-divergent nozzles to produce the supersonic flame.

Warranty highlights new Swagelok intstrumentation manifolds
Article Abstract:
Swagelok Co of Solon, OH, has introduced its new line of two-, three- and five-valve instrument manifolds. The manifolds offers shorter internal flow paths that reduce dead volume and residual build-up. The manifold system also ensures that paths are free from internal burrs, materia irregularities and seat inclusions. The new manifolds are available with 1/2 inch female NPR instrumentation flange connections and integral Swagelok tube fitting ends.
