The millenium bug or year 2000 computer date transition (Y2K) problem is presenting society with a number of new and startling insights relating to the impact of technology and technological advances on many systems worldwide. What the world learns with the Y2K problem will prepare it for a future where society can expect to encounter an increasing number of complex systems failures. Complex systems failures appear to share a number of distinguishing features which ought to be studied.
