The polite path to competitiveness

Article Abstract:

Poor customer service hinders Indian economic development in a global economy. Rudeness and lack of responsiveness are endemic in India whether in governmental services or the private sector. However, forty percent of India's economy depends on customer service-sensitive industries such as tourism, engineering consultants, and exports. Research shows good service is vital to retaining customers. Protected markets and government monopolies have allowed abysmal customer service to flourish without penalty, but India must remedy the problem if she hopes to compete abroad.

Extinction vulnerability and selectivity: combining ecological and paleontological views

Article Abstract:

Extinction selectivity can generate biodiversity loss at faster rates than random taxa species loss. Vulnerable taxa are replaced by ones that thrive in human-altered environments, reducing biodiversity and producing an increasingly homogenized biosphere. Vulnerability can be determined by identification of extinction-biasing traits, such as size and abundance.
