Persistent organochlorine pollutants in children working at a waste-disposal site and in young females with high fish consumption in Managua, Nicaragua
Article Abstract:
Persistent organochlorine pollutant (POP) levels were assessed in serum collected from children working and sometimes also living at the waste disposal site and the influence of dietary exposure was evaluated by assessing POP levels in serum from young women, who were high consumers of fish from Lake Managua, Nicaragua. Data suggest an occupational and environmental exposure to POPs in children at the waste-disposal site and that consumption of fish from Lake Managua may also influence the levels of some POPs.

Monitoring temporal and spatial trends in polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in eggs of great blue heron (Ardea herodias) on the coast of British Columbia, Canada, 1983-1998
Article Abstract:
Research on eggs from 21 great blue heron coastal rookeries in British Columbia, conducted between 1983 and 1998, indicates that prey fish were a significant exposure route for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin and dibenzofuran levels found in heron eggs. This exposure has decreased since pulp mills have exchanged molecular chlorine bleaching for alternative bleaching processes, releasing fewer contaminants into coastal waters.

Reduction of organochlorine residues in Goshawk eggs (Accipiter gentilis) from Northern Germany (1971-2002) and increasing eggshell index
Article Abstract:
The temporal change of some contaminants in eggs and some reproduction parameters and the shell thickness in correlation to residue concentrations is discussed. It was found that Goshawk eggs were suitable indicators for the contamination of their breeding habitats independent of the age of females.
