Shipping on the cheap
Article Abstract:
Alternative modes of transportation continue to be used in the rural areas in developing countries. These modes of transport can be adopted to other places to enhance goods transport. For instance, the shoulder pole, mostly used in Asia can be introduced in Africa as an alternative to head-borne loads. Non-motorized whellbarrows, trolleys and pushcarts are not used as often because of costs and inadequate maintenance systems. However, pack animals remain the most viable means of transport in these areas.
