The basic principles and patterns of biodiversity and a qualitative review of carbon management are described. The land management activities that might be encouraged or discouraged within and among the countries for managing and trading carbon credits are also discussed.

The management approaches in Mediterranean zone, the concurrent effects on biodiversity and different values and priorities of forests in rapidly changing circumstances are reviewed. The issues that can have clear consequences on biodiversity are described.
