A Bioeconomic Model of an International Fishery
Article Abstract:
First a biological model of the fishing industry is given. Then an economic model of international fishing under open access to fishing grounds is given. These two models are combined to give a picture of how fish population and yields over time are effected by the fishing industry. Finally a model aiming at maximum global yield of fish is given, incorporating restricted access to fishing grounds. Results are compared with a model for maximized local economic yield for a specific country.

Optimal Harvesting of Ecologically Interdependent Fish Species
Article Abstract:
A model of ecologically interdependent fish species is given. This model is used to show the effects that changes in the discount rate or the prices and harvesting costs of different fish species would have on the social optimum output. A possible method of attaining the social optimum with open access to fishing grounds by subsidizing the catch of predator species is examined. These models emphasize the relationship between predator fish, prey fish, and economic variables.

The Fishery in a Fluctuating Environment
Article Abstract:
A commercial marine fishery is used as an example of a common property renewable resource industry. A model is developed concerning the use of multipurpose fishing vessels in an open access situation. Such vessels are suited to harvesting a variety of fish at a less efficient level than a specialized ship. In open access situations, no licensing or regulation, these multipurpose vessels become more prevalent. This leads to a non-optimal fish harvest.
