Anaerobic digestion advances: new projects are recovering methane and producing compost from varied feedstocks that range from trimmings to livestock manures
Article Abstract:
Rapid growth is expected in the development of anaerobic digestion systems in the US, with compost being produced from a variety of municipal, agricultural and commercial feedstocks. One of the latest sites is a 30,000 t/y anaerobic composting facility in Greensboro, NC, due to begin operations in February 2000. The project, designed to take yard trimmings, has been jointly developed by the city of Greensboro and Duke Engineering & Services.
