Analyzing compost economics
Article Abstract:
The University of Florida's Food and Resource Economics Department attended four compost producing facilities in the state to determine cost-benefit economic data of applied compost. Costs were broken down into compost cost, transportation cost and application cost. The benefits of compost application included yield increase, quality improvement, fertilizer, irrigation and pesticide/herbicide savings.

Energy recovery at biosolids composting facility
Article Abstract:
An innovative energy recovery and reuse composting system developed by the Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission in New Brunswick, Canada to address wintertime operational challenges is reviewed. The information obtained from the successful pilot testing of the system could be used to design guidelines for overall system of storage, piping, valving and control.

Biosolids use increases pine production
Article Abstract:
Biosolid applications were found to improve site productivity at a New Zealand pine plantation with no negative effects on soil chemistry. Tree basal area averages were 48% greater in high treatment regions and 30% greater in standard treatment regions than in untreated regions without increasing soil acidity or heavy metal concentrations.
