Gaining public support by design
Article Abstract:
There is a debate regarding the project site of Springfield, MO projected MRF/composting facility. Opponents of the proposed site, mostly nearby residents, have filed a lawsuit. Despite the reasons cited by complainants, however, a conditional permit was still issued. This experience has taught supporters never to underestimate opposition, pick a very remote site with the fewest people possible, analyze and document different sites' criteria findings objectively, be firm on the decided site and be politically correct. The subject of noise, water pollution and odor problems are the basic objections that need to be addressed convincingly.

Guaranteed markets: package recycling laws
Article Abstract:
Germany has implemented a package recycling law which aims to decrease packaging waste by six to eight metric tons each year. The regulation covers transport, excess and primary packaging which will be implemented into three phases. The ordinance requires retailers and private owners to retrieve waste packaging and recycle these, either by their own facilities or a privately-funded collection system. The ordinance was viewed to affect many distributors and has encouraged the use of reusable containers.
