Building biosolids acceptance
Article Abstract:
The Consorci de la Costa Brava regional water agency in northeast Spain has been working with private firm, farmers and researchers to increase the use of biosolids. The agency primarily handles the wastewater treatment of 27 municipalities in Costa Brava, where the number of residents peak at 150,000 in the winter but which can peak to 1.1 million people in mid-August. The area's existing biosolid production total of about 20,000 metric tons a year is expected to reach 40,000 metric tons annually by 2001. Thus, increased uses for biosolids in the area has become an urgent priority.

Balancing benefits and risks in biosolids
Article Abstract:
Biosolids can play a valuable role in maintaining and boosting soil quality through the addition of organic matter. Furthermore, they do not represent any real danger to human health or to the environment, as long as they are appropriately treated and managed. There is still some scepticism among ordinary Americans about the use of biosolids, but biosolids generators can boost public confidence by developing a code of practice and guaranteeing their products with product liability insurance.

Building acceptance for biosolids utilization
Article Abstract:
The Metropolitan Waste Control Commission (MWCC) has three programs that convert waste water treatment residuals into three beneficial fertilizer sources. They include NutraLime, N-Viro soil, and anaerobically digested biosolids. To popularize the benefits of biosolid recycling programs, MWCC conducts field demonstrations.
