Efficiency vs bias of willingness-to-pay estimates: bivariate and interval-data models
Article Abstract:
A research effort studies the results when an interval-data model is fitted to discrete choice contingent valuation data with a follow-up when the willingness-to-pay responses are generated by a bivariate process. The analysis also involves fitting a bivariate model when the most parsimonious statistical framework is an interval-data model. Results show that, using Monte Carlo simulations, the interval-data estimates for the mean/median WTP may be robust to departures from the actual bivariate model. In terms of the estimates' mean square error, the interval-data model is found to be superior to the bivariate model.

Strict liability as a deterrent in toxic waste management: empirical evidence from accident and spill data
Article Abstract:
Variations were noted with regards to the effect of strict liability in encouraging companies to take care and lessen the number of accidents and spills. When dealing with chemicals such as acids, chlorine and ammonia, empirical evidence shows that spills may be numerous in states that have implemented strict liability. When dealing with chemicals such as halogenated solvents, no significant difference was noted in spill rates between states with and without strict liability provisions.
