Thin wood cuts pay off
Article Abstract:
An innovative company named, Woodwurx Corporation, which has learned to utilize advanced approaches to sawmilling to profitably produce lumber from pine beetle killed log is presented. An effort to utilize large quantities of fiber to produce pallet material, which also overcomes the economic challenge to provide an adequate return on investment, was made possible by use of sawmill coupled with very thin kerf blade technology.

Oregon-based Juniper Northwest Inc. creates wood products from juniper trees, which are ordinarily considered a plant pest and unusable. The company harvests trees as soon as possible with a portable band mill after they are cut down, to prevent the wood from drying unevenly and excessively, and produces paneling, flooring, and furniture.

Oak Leaf Wood 'N Supplies, an Illinois wood salvager, uses portable sawmills to harvest wood from lots that contain tree species not typically used by the commercial lumber industry, such as fruit-tree woods. Its client base is primarily made up of farmers clearing land for agriculture.
