Examining residential organics diversion
Article Abstract:
A residential organic diversion pilot program implemented in King County, Washington concluded that the most cost-effective way to collect food residuals was to collect them in single compartment trucks from customers subscribing to yard trimmings collection service. A survey on attitudes regarding separation of food residuals shows that residents are interested in refuse collection programs if no service cost is involved. Issues related to quantity of diversion material, contamination, and customer acceptability and performance of containers were explored by the King County Solid Waste Division during the program.

The bottom line in bagging
Article Abstract:
The sale of finished compost products in bags rather than in bulk may be unprofitable, but helps in improving overall marketing. Some compost companies market bagged products with the aim to build an acceptance for their products and generate bulk sales, and increase profits. However, bagging operations require substantial investment, and also lead to increased competition and emphasis on quality. Bagging operations of soil products and their marketing strategies are described.
