Steel recycling trend continues to rise
Article Abstract:
A total of 67 million tons of recycled steel was produced in 1999, according to figures compiled by the Steel Recycling Institute (SRI) based in Pittsburgh, PA. The total, which came close to breaking the 1997 record for recycled steel, was helped by a decrease in US steel imports and an increase in US domestic production. The SRI also points to new technologies in the use of steel scrap as responsible for the increased production of recycled steel.

Ferrous fortunes improving?
Article Abstract:
Speakers at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc Ferrous Roundtable on Sept 12, 2000 in Chicago, IL, were optimistic that several global factors could help ferrous prices in the US. These include the recovery of Asian economies, the expectation that the US will regain its title as the top ferrous scrap exporter to South Korea in 2000 and the possible reduction of scrap shipments from Ukraine and Russia.
