Getting the right mix
Article Abstract:
Ingredients play an important role in the success of a compost program. Moisture content is maintaining thermophilic conditions with an upper limit of 55 to 65%. The carbon and nitrogen ratio should be 30:1 for good oxygen transport and blending with carbon waste. Green Lane Environmental Group, Ltd. considers attention to volume, particle size, porosity, nutrients, and moisture to produce good compost. The Cornell Composting site on World Wide Web provides technical and basic information, generic spreadsheets, and online calculating tools.
