Institutional experiences with composting containers
Article Abstract:
Several institutions in the US have installed small scale on-site in-vessel systems for handling their composting operations. Lack of enough space and labor, less equipment requirements, and the control of odors and rodents through contained systems are some of the advantages of these in-vessel systems. Containers are also easier to sell, than open piles of waste. Details of in-vessel systems at the Whiteman Air Force Base, Flushing Hospital and Medical Center, and the Universities of San Francisco and Massachusetts are presented.

Restaurants evaluate composting option
Article Abstract:
Fast food chains such as McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Dunkin' Donuts have embarked on separate pilot projects to explore the feasibility of composting as a means to minimize materials going to the waste stream. Composting waste is less costly than having it hauled. However, none of the companies can immediately adopt the composting alternative due to the absence of composting facilities at present.

Building longevity into composting buildings
Article Abstract:
Metal beams and support structures in buildings are often subjected to corrosions from the moisture and acidic emissions released from the process. Some of the variety of corrosion resistant options for enclosed composting facilities, where the harsh environment shows no mercy to exposed metal surfaces are discussed in brief.
