Global forces hit
Article Abstract:
Processors and dealers of aluminum scrap are expected to search for new markets in the US rather than concentrate on Asian markets which are now experiencing financial crises. The Asian scenario whose outcome is already difficult to predict has been made grimmer because of the falling yen of Japan. The price of aluminum scrap is also being forced down even more by the influx of surplus aluminum scrap from European suppliers. The London Metals Exchange is also exerting considerable impact on the price of scrap.

High grade markets ending year with a bang
Article Abstract:
Strong pulp prices in 1999 have fueled surging prices for pulp substitutes and de-inking paper stock grades. Many in the industry, however, are wondering if the improvement will be sustained in 2000. Yet the existing trend in increasing prices for wood pulp appears to point to an upward incline, with recovering Asian economies being considered the driver for much of this strength. This bodes well for the pulp substitute market in 2000.
