Landfill gives birth to ecoindustrial complex

The Burlington County, New Jersey Resource Recovery complex co-located all of its solid waste processing, treatment, resource recovery and recycling facilities at the landfill to take advantage of potential synergies. The resource recovery park has evolved a home for innovation and entrepreneurship, research, education and technology development within a framework of a partnership with Rutgers University's.

The composting industry has grown tremendously and there is a need to develop an industry-wide understanding of this sector in order to achieve increased sales of compost and compost-amended products. The first step in characterizing an industry is defining who belongs and then identifying tools to measure its economic vitality.
