Landscape company moves into yard waste composting
Article Abstract:
Barnes Nursery, Inc in Lake Erie, Ohio developed a new yard waste recovery division, in addition to its 250 acre tree nursery and wholesale sections. Sharon and Bob Barnes, owners of the landscape contracting and maintenance company discussed the operations involved in yard waste composting as they have experienced. They claim that profits on this business venture is largely dependent on direct supervision of every aspect of the composting process due to the high costs of processing and distribution of products. Markets, they say, are even limited to the horticultural and landscaping businesses such as theirs.

Refining compost use in the backyard
Article Abstract:
It is possible to convert an ordinary household compost bin into a hot hut. Any type of compost bin which can be insulated with corrugated cardboard on the inside is suitable. It is necessary to construct a wooden top, on which a glass or rigid plastic cover is placed. It is best to build a compost heap which is at least four ft tall and four ft around, with plastic pipe acting as chimneys to conduct the heat from the pile to the top. One of the quickest ways of getting a compost heap to heat up is to use fresh horse manure.
