Metal Management acquires stake in southern recycling
Article Abstract:
Metal Management Inc. will buy 28.5% of Southern Recycling LLC for an undisclosed price. Metal Management in exchange for the interest will provide financial and management expertise to Southern. It also has the option to buy the remaining controlling interest after three years. The purchase will give Metal 20 scrap recycling facilities from Louisiana to Florida. The acquisition is part of Metal's efforts to be the best metal recovery company in the US. Southern's strategically located facilities and excellent manpower will help Metal achieve its growth and integration plans in the Gulf States area.

Abitibi to buy Donohue
Article Abstract:
Abitibi-Consolidated Inc of Montreal, Quebec, has acquired Donohue Inc for $4.9 billion. The consolidation of the two companies has created North America's third largest producer of newsprint with a combined production capacity of 6.3 million tons annually from its 25 paper mills in Canada, US and UK and four mills in South Korea, Thailand and China. In addition, the resulting company is considered the fifth largest lumber producer in North America, having control of 24 sawmills.

Pennsylvania crusher acquires Jeffrey

Global Processing Systems Inc of Dallas, TX, has sold the operations and assets of Jeffrey Specialty Equipment Corp to Pennsylvania Crusher Corp of Broomall, PA. The Jeffrey operations in Woodruff, SC, will be called Jeffrey Specialty Equipment Corp, and will operate as a wholly-owned division of Pennsylvania Crusher, a supplier of machinery for power generation, quarries, and process plants, among others.
