When innovation becomes the norm
Article Abstract:
The benefits gained by the state of Pennsylvania from its legislated recycling program far outweighs the costs it has incurred in the ten years of its implementation. The state had been able to recycle around 10 million tons of garbage, surpassing its set goal of 25% recycling rate. The recycling industry continues to develop ways for improving processes and reducing costs further. In a related nationwide development, the practice of composting food wastes has grown into large scale projects. This trend has helped in the spread of organic farming.

Building a safe pesticides industry with bioproducts and biomethods
Article Abstract:
It is increasingly recognized that compost can play a part in pest management, a finding that will affect quality compost producers. There is increasing concern about the impact of some pesticides, such as organophosphates. Soil-borne plant pathogens are less likely to affect plants grown with organic amendments. Different biocontrol methods can be used, tailored to the needs of growers. Disease-suppressive composts have been used with a range of crops, including strawberries.
