Northumberland, Ontario launches wet/dry program
Article Abstract:
Public opposition to the composting operation in the county of Northumberland, Ontario, caused the officials to endorse a wet/dry system with the dry waste processing implemented before the wet one. All 75,000 residents were asked to separate their waste into dry materials in blue boxes, wet materials in garbage cans, and household hazardous materials. The plant is constructed to process 30,000 metric tons/yr of dry waste. An advantage of the program has been an enhanced awareness of the county's household hazardous waste depots.
