Tough sledding ahead
Article Abstract:
The ferrous scrap industry continues to move forward despite low scrap prices which hit the sector in the second half of 1998. US scrap firms are optimistic that the industry will recover, citing the expansion of mini-mills. Some firms, however, view the downturn as an economic opportunity which would stimulate demand in the market. The industry is also hoping that an Asian economic recovery would take place in 1999 to boost the prices of ferrous scrap.
