Pipe used in rehab of county sewer inceptions
Article Abstract:
The rehabilitation of two JO 'D' unit 108-inch interceptor pipes owned by the Los Angeles County Sanitation District (LACSD), located in and near Carson, CA, presented several challenges to contractor Hobas Pipe USA. LACSD wanted no flow diversion and no bypass pumping, and the liner pipe had to be installed under live flow conditions. A corrosion-resistant liner must also be installed to avoid future degradation. Hobas fabricated a liner with an OD of 87 inches and an ID greater than 83 inches to ensure low-risk fit and maximum flow capacity. The pipe had a minimum stiffness of 36 psi to allow for safe grouting of the annular space between the host ID and the liner OD.

City of Hollywood revises industrial pretreatment program
Article Abstract:
The city of Hollywood, FL, implemented several steps to improve the industrial pretreatment program at its Southern Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, which was found to be inadequate by the Florida Dept of Environmental Protection. Among these measures are the implementation of a continuous and active sampling and pretreatment inspection program; the use of 'near clean' sampling techniques for all sampling events; a pretreatment program for controlling grease; and the use of national laboratories for trace metal sampling.
