Pollution monitoring: optimal design of inspection - an economic analysis of the use of satellite information to deter oil pollution
Article Abstract:
A theoretical model was formulated to assess the effect of satellite information in deterring oil pollution. The model shows that utilization of satellite information results in lessening of pollution and monitoring costs. Satellite information, which allows pollution decrease with fewer aerial controls, is directed more in monitoring agents who pose the greater risk as polluters. The model emphasizes the significance of air pollution's social costs in assessing the value of satellite information in pollution monitoring.

Changes in optimal pollution taxes as population increases
Article Abstract:
The role of optimal pollution taxes in curbing pollution in countries with population growth is investigated. To this end, a model of economic interaction between pollution and population, which treats pollution both as a public bad and as a private bad, is developed. Characterizing pollution as an undepletable externality, it highlights the need for complementary mechanisms to compensate the 'original population' for the increased pollution brought about by population growth.
