Poultry litter composting comparisons
Article Abstract:
Research undertaken at the University of Maryland has sought to establish whether compost from poultry litter can be produced in appropriate quality and quantity at low enough cost to meet the needs of commercial nurseries. It was established that both static and machine turned compost processing are appropriate for poultry litter combinations with wood chips and sawdust at less than optimal C:N ratios. It seems that the compost process is likely to be successful as long as the basic conditions of nutrient, porosity and moisture balance are created. A possible scenario would be to mix and compost poultry litter on the farm which produced the litter.

Composting biosolids saves $3.3 million in landfill costs
Article Abstract:
The Anheuser-Busch brewery in New York has spared 3.3 million dollars in tipping fees from high-quality compost produced from food processing biosolids, saving 73,900 cubic yards of landfill. The composting process was developed in the brewery's facility in Connecticut and presently, Anheuser-Busch is experimenting on the compostability of wet-strength fiberboard from beer packaging.

Comparing aeration strategies for composting
Article Abstract:
Issues are presented concerning the value of 1,500 to 2,000 tons of crabs caught as a by-product of the Maine lobster fishing industry. The aeration methods investigated by the University of Maine for the composting of crabs are discussed.
