Pricing biodiversity

Article Abstract:

A management price framework was proposed to inform decision making directed at the land-management unit level when biodiversity is one of several land-management objectives. The model, which can also be used in analyzing conservation costs, suggests a form for objective function's biodiversity component and for assessing contributions to alternative land use patterns' biodiversity. A basis for prioritizing conservation effort was determined after high marginal returns to conservation effort was noted from high management prices.

Externalities, market power, and resource extraction

Article Abstract:

The effect of market power in the existence of biological and dynamic externalities was examined. Results show that the evolution of fish population is impacted by their joint action when fish is harvested by various countries in international waters. Market prices of fish depend on the consumption and harvesting in all countries causing the generation of an externality. The role of various externalities in causing inefficiency was also analyzed.
