Recycling makes an impact at the Olympic games
Article Abstract:
An extensive and efficient system for recycling trash was introduced at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, GA. The solid waste handling system aimed to take the source separated recyclables for processing and composting, and promoted convenience during the games. The system provided instant and consistent service around the clock. However, the program faced a setback due to the high turnover of volunteers, which necessitated restructuring. Pre-event training and ongoing management were necessary for the success of such a program.
