Runways and recyclables
Article Abstract:
The large volume of trash generated by the Los Angeles International Airport complex necessitated the establishment of a waste diversion program. Acquired data produced waste generation rates and amount of recyclables which led to the development of a plan for reducing the amount of waste going into landfills. Money can be recovered through the sale of materials and avoided landfill costs. A proposed five-phase plan is projected to recover 58% of the waste. The first two phases are expected to be implemented in 1992 and 1993 and involve standard purchasing practices , recycling depots and a recovery program for paper towels.
