Sewage pipe break closes San Diego beaches
Article Abstract:
Twenty miles of beach along the San Diego, CA, coast was quarantined due to a break in the sewage pipe which normally carries partially treated sewage. The pipe channels 170 million gallons of sewage from the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant. A storm had pushed the effluent coming from a break 0.6 mile offshore back towards the beach necessitating the closure of the beaches. The city plans to upgrade the sewage treatment facility after the repair of the pipe, expected to be complete by Apr 1, 1992.

Curbside recycling in its glory
Article Abstract:
Curbside recycling has grown into a prominent method of gathering household materials even though it is a comparatively new thing in the US. One fourth of municipal programs were not there in 1992 and 63 percent were not implemented in 1990 as per the 'BioCycle' data. The growth of a curbside program takes about five years.
