Taking the gas pipe
Article Abstract:
Manufacturers of secondary aluminum are reeling from the rising costs of natural gas. Energy costs that amounted to $150,000 per month have gone up to as much as $500,000. High natural gas prices has forced Wabash Alloys and other aluminum operators to shut down their smelters. To add to their misery, near-term forecasts by the auto industry, one of the biggest users of secondary aluminum, have not been very encouraging. Manufacturers of durable goods also expect slower sales during the first half of 2001.

Fiber consumption gallops onward
Article Abstract:
Recovered fiber consumption was generally strong throughout 1999 with demand ranging between 2,790,000 tons and 3,271,000 tons. Demand is expected to remain robust in 2000 fueled by large orders from corrugated companies operating in China. Meanwhile, there are indications showing that manufacturers will not be able to provide enough supply to cope with incresing demand for fiber.
