Taxation, depletion, and welfare: a simulation study of the U.S. petroleum resource
Article Abstract:
The effects of taxes on property, production and corporate income on petroleum exploration and production in the US are examined. The rates for all three tax categories are selected to yield the same present value tax revenue, so the excess burdens of alternative taxes and the impact of each tax category on incentives to explore and produce can be compared. Simulation results show that porperty and production taxes result in substantial deadweight losses.

On endogenous growth: the implications of environmental externalities
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the interaction between trade, economic development and the environment using an endogenous growth model. The results indicate that the effect of trade on growth depends on the relation between factor intensities of exportable, importable and R&D and the factor R&D uses more intensively. The long-term rate of economic development changes with environmental externalities depending on the intertemporal elasticity of substitution.

Assessing the relationship between government policy and deforestation
Article Abstract:
The correlation between public policies and deforestation is investigated using a general equilibrium model. The model depicts forests either as a market input which leads to the manufacture of forest products or as a natural resource that provides consumption benefits. The government policies evaluated include taxes on timber cutting, log export controls, agricultural policies as well as transportation and employment opportunity improvements.
