The grind after the storm: Hurricane Georges swept through Florida leaving tons of debris in its wake and presenting different challenges for different areas
Article Abstract:
When Hurricane Georges swept through the Florida Keys it left tons of debris in its wake. Crews cleared debris during the eye of the storm, and in Key West roadblocks were set up after the storm so that the streets could be cleared of debris. Wood debris was cleared to an 11-acre tract for grinding. Monroe County established staging areas on Key Largo, Sugar Loaf, Marathon and Rockland Key. Much of the debris will be incinerated.
