Recycling at produce terminals
Article Abstract:
Produce terminals generate large volumes of residuals and waste management is a major expense. Efficient recycling is important to deal with produce residuals and also cardboard, wood and plastic materials. At the Los Angeles City Market some leftover product is saved for organics recycling, leaving around 10 tons a day going to landfill. The Ontario Food Terminal in Toronto diverted around 1,900 tons of produce residuals to a hog farmer in 1998. It also recycled around 375 tons of wood and around 106 tones of mixed cardboard.

Social Security Administration excels in recycling
Article Abstract:
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has shown strong commitment to recycling. Indeed, it now recovers 12 materials from its main headquarters in Baltimore, MD, where it employs 6,000 people in eight buildings. Since Mar 1998, plastic bottles have been recycled in 15 red plastic containers located throughout the site and at the cafeteria. Blue recycling bins and gaylord boxes are used to collect white paper. SSA sold 134 tons of used white paper to a recycling contractor in 1998, producing $17,422 in revenue.
