MSW composting in the Arabian region
Article Abstract:
Municipal Solid Waste composting in the Arabian Region is being undertaken due to high demand for soil enhancers rather than due to environmental concerns. As solid wastes are being viewed as a good revenue earner after being processed, 16 municipal composting facilities in the Arabian region are processing an approximate of 70,000 metric tons of solid waste per year. Waste separation is generally not supported by Arabian residents, thus, materials for composting remain to be mixed wastes. Operation expenses are covered entirely through marketing of the product.

Composting in the European Union
Article Abstract:
The EU has increased its waste output in direct proportion to increasing production and consumption levels. This has resulted in a growing concern since 1978 over the ecologic effect of the rising volume of waste and its toxicity. The EU has established a number of waste control strategies since 1978, with a focus on waste prevention. A new generation of composting plants have emerged in EU countries that process source separated waste streams and thereby produce high quality compost.
