MSW composting plant closes
Article Abstract:
Wright County closed down the municipal solid waste (MSW) composting facility on Jan 31, 1997, due to economic problems. The plant had a capacity of 165 tpd and was one of the largest MSW composting facilities, operating nationwide. The plant faced economic difficulty after the removal of the flow control regulations and was unable to compete with existing landfill fees. The county plans to turn the facility into a recycling center or mixed waste processing facility.

Cocomposting sludge and MSW
Article Abstract:
A second version of a solid waste cocomposting facility in Columbia County, WI, has started operations. Specifications of the vessel and the terms of contracting services are documented. The facility, which only accepts household and commercial trash, is aimed at servicing the entire county. Problems such as odor complaints have not been encountered yet. It is planned that the compost produced will be used as soil additive to a commercial flower farm nearby.
