Towards a clearer public understanding
Article Abstract:
Significant gains have been achieved in composting research in the 1990s. Federal agencies and research institutions have turned up laboratory and field data at impressive rates. The composting industry is well on the way towards research on the safe use of composted organics aside from those derived from biosolids. However, the composting community should focus more on safety and environmental concerns and should establish a framework that addresses both public and regulatory concerns.

Getting beyond the three R's
Article Abstract:
Waste disposal facilities should have the capability to reduce, reuse and recycle for them to be truly effective. Composting provides a way for these facilities to meet these requirements. The case of the intake pumping station at the California Aqueduct in Tracy, CA, illustrates this point. The Bureau of Reclamation and Composting Council Research and Education Foundation are currently looking for an effective way to compost the hyacinths that are disposed from the intake every day.
