Alongside with this, landfilling of waste decreased to 130 million tons in 1990 from 140 million tons in 1986 and 1987. The total amount of metals recovered from 1988 to 1990 increased to 23%, up from 14.6%. The report also stated that 12% of yard waste was composted in 1990. Year end review of recycling
Article Abstract:
The number of curbside recycling programs has increased by about 700% in 1996. The increase in food residual composting has led to a related increase in small-scale in-vessel systems. Cocollection of commingled materials has increased. Mixed waste composting facilities have decreased to 15. The wet/dry recycling system was set up in Guelph, Ontario. The state of garbage in America
Article Abstract:
Retrieval of municipal solid waste (MSW) is increasing quickly but curbside recycling has started to decrease. The nation's recycling rate, including yard trimming composting, increased to 23% in 1994 from 19% in 1993. MSW production reported by states increased to 323 million tons in 1993. It is hoped that market forces will create a even greater demand for recoverable resources over the next several years.
