White House Blocks Senate-Sought Study by EPA, DOE On Carbon Cuts
Article Abstract:
Senators Jim Jeffords and Joseph Lieberman's request for a study of the benefits of reducing carbon dioxide emissions was reportedly blocked by the White House using a report by the Energy Information Administration suggesting the cost of controlling emission from power plants would be prohibitive. The Southern Company, one of the coal-fired utilities opposing anti pollutant bills, was reportedly behind this administration move.
