Did Marco Polo go to China?
Article Abstract:
Marco Polo's Chinese sojourn is doubtful as per accounts in his book, 'Description of the World.' Compared to William of Rubruck's description, Marco Polo's account of the Karakorum is scanty and he omits mention of prominent Chinese features, such as the Great Wall, chopsticks, the bound feet of Chinese women, and the exotic Chinese script. His claim of being the first European at Qubilai Khan's court also sounds hollow. Based on linguistic style, some argue that Marco Polo was an invented character and early texts reveal a shorter version of his book.

A yoke that's wearing thin
Article Abstract:
The so-called 'special relationship' between the United States and United Kingdom has been eroded by the lack of a common enemy. The key areas where there remains a special relationship is in intelligence gathering and in nuclear matters. The relationship is primarily friendly, however, and the two countries have a variety of historical and cultural links which make them appear similar in comparison with other countries. The relationship was particularly close during the two world wars, although the UK was ultimately forced into a subordinate position.

Today, the musical dies
Article Abstract:
Today's Broadway musicals show no signs of the quality of their forebears. They seem to be advertisements for themselves and for conspicuous consumption, and little attention is paid to basics such as the score. A spate of new musicals such as 'Saturday Night Fever' and Disney's 'Aida' are not promising for the future of the genre.
