Hannah and her sister: the facts of fiction
Article Abstract:
Novelist Julie Fay recounts the hardships and years of research she underwent to write a fictional account of Hannah Emerson Dustin. Dustin is the 17th century mother who murdered a number of Indians to avenge the death of her infant. Her research also touched on Hannah's sister, Elizabeth Emerson, who was also a murderer, according to historical accounts. While her motive was to write a novel, Fay says her research helped her uncover some of the truths and differentiate them from the myths surrounding the case.

However polarized the two were in politics, they had parallel concerns in the upliftment of the social order.
